“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” - Alvin Toffler. Powershift: Knowledge, Wealth, and Violence at the Edge of the 21st Century, 1990.Next time you complain about having to "figure out some new computer/system/reading device/etc." think about what this really means. If you could not read or write, would you complain about those who invented writing?

I would make the argument that in many cases, the learning of that feature/software/gadget is greatly hindered by a non-intuitive design created by the lack of foresight and planning that needs to go into planning such a design.
It doesn't take a 120-page user manual to take a pencil to paper and start writing something down, even if the marks you make are unintelligible to the rest of the world. :)
