Another Side of Bob Dylan cover shoot at 52nd and Broadway

IMG_20150103_090352275_HDRYes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now
- Bob Dylan, "My Back Pages"

I’d forever talk to you
But soon my words
They would turn into a meaningless ring
For deep in my heart
I know there is no help I can bring
Everything passes
Everything changes
Just do what you think you should do
And someday maybe
Who knows, baby
I’ll come and be cryin’ to you
- Bob Dylan, "To Ramona"

Album cover shoot of Another Side of Bob Dylan.

Location: Southwest corner of 52nd Street and Broadway, Times Square, New York looking east. Dylan is looking west.

Now the bricks lay on Grand Street / Where the neon madmen climb / They all fall there so perfectly It all seems so well timed - B Dylan #QotD

2015.01.01-IMG_3487Now the bricks lay on Grand Street
Where the neon madmen climb
They all fall there so perfectly
It all seems so well timed
And here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice
Oh, Mama, is this really the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.
- Bob Dylan, "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again"

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel / you were famous, your heart was a legend. - L. Cohen #QotD

IMG_20150102_075908355The famed Chelsea Hotel is undergoing a transition ... as is all of NYC!

Once the home of, well, just about everybody from Dylan Thomas to Bob Dylan (and Thomas Wolfe, and Arthur C. Clarke, and Leonard Cohen, and Patti Smith & Robert Mapplethorpe, and Joni Mitchell ... and and and...) it's now under renovation that will probably turn it into a Kimpton or somesuch boutique spot ..

* * * * *

2015.01.02-IMG_3512_CroppedI remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
you were famous, your heart was a legend.
You told me again you preferred handsome men
but for me you would make an exception.
And clenching your fist for the ones like us
who are oppressed by the figures of beauty,
you fixed yourself, you said, "Well never mind,
we are ugly but we have the music."
- Leonard Cohen, "Chelsea Hotel #2"

Oh, and we should mention Bob Dylan's lyric to the famed Chelsea Hotel:

I can still hear the sounds of those Methodist bells
I’d taken the cure and had just gotten through
Stayin’ up for days in the Chelsea Hotel
Writin’ “Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands” for you
- Bob Dylan

"I rambled out of New York town / And headed out for the western skies" - Bob Dylan Talkin' New York #QotD

So one mornin’ when the sun was warm
I rambled out of New York town
Pulled my cap down over my eyes
And headed out for the western skies
So long, New York
Howdy, East Orange

"Grabbed hold of a subway car / & after a rocking, reeling, rolling ride / I landed up on the downtown side / Greenwich Village" Dylan #QotD

Dropping by Greenwich Village, not as cold as Dylan's day!

I swung onto my old guitar
Grabbed hold of a subway car
And after a rocking, reeling, rolling ride
I landed up on the downtown side
Greenwich Village

I walked down there and ended up
In one of them coffee-houses on the block
Got on the stage to sing and play
Man there said, “Come back some other day
You sound like a hillbilly
We want folk singers here”

QotD: "You shouldn’t let other people get your kicks for you" - Bob Dylan's 73rd birthday

2014.05.24 DylanThe poster of the psychedelic Dylan by the famed designer Milton Glaser is the inspiration for the tribute dodo on Bob Dylan's 73rd birthday.
"You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain’t no good
You shouldn’t let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain’t it hard when you discover that
He really wasn’t where it’s at
After he took from you everything he could steal"
   - Bob Dylan, "Like a Rolling Stone"
